I want this write up to be as practical and realistic as possible. And because of that, I’ll be super sincere with you on some issues.

The first thing I will be sincere about is that I started putting my thoughts down on paper on this topic a few hours ago. This is not to mean that it’ll be wack or anything like that. It just means that it’s pure, from my heart and unfiltered. The topic has been on my mind since I picked it and I gave it a lot of thought before I decided to finally share those thoughts on paper and now with you.

So let’s get started.

If you ask me what my passion is, I’ll most likely say “I don’t know” at first response. But then, if I decide to give it much thought, I’ll realize that I have a few ideas and guesses on what my passion might be.

However, I don’t think that I have just one passion. I don’t believe everyone has just one passion in life. We can all be passionate about a lot of things. And when I came to this realization, I felt free.

There is so much pressure on us all to find our passion and build our world around it because our future and happiness depend on it. That is a lot of pressure to put on a young soul who is confused about life and a lot of things. And that’s why we end up feeling or being frustrated most times when we cannot figure out what our passion is.

So I propose that we start afresh. Let’s begin this write-up the usual way people begin posts like this and let’s also begin again the way we go about finding our passion(s).

First off, let me even define what passion is. I checked the dictionary on my phone (because I don’t have a physical one and it’s just more convenient) and on it, Passion is defined as “Any great, strong, powerful emotion, especially romantic love or hate. The second definition was “fervor, determination”. It had lots of other definitions too that we do not need to bother ourselves with.

What I picked out first was that the word “Passion” is a noun. So technically, it’s a thing. So it’s either we have it or not. Aside from that, passion is an emotion. A very strong one can be directed towards a person, thing or activity. You could be passionate about your lover, friend, books, driving, playing games, etc.

Now that we have somehow established what passion means, I will like to state also that passion has to make us feel good. That’s why people try so hard to find it and when they do, they seem so happy and fulfilled.

To find your passion is to find what your heart enjoys doing. And there’s no better way to do that than to give in to your heart yearnings, your curiosity. I will not say that I have figured out entirely what my passion is. Rather, I will say that I am letting my curiosity lead me to what my passion is. I cannot tell if my heart enjoys doing something until I try it. And until I try it, I won’t find my passion.

So I am inviting you to join me in this. Let your curiosity run wild. Try out things that excite you. It’ll open you up to small opportunities and then really big opportunities and then you reach a point where you realize that you have found your passion.

I have tried so many things. Once I pick up interest in something new, I try it out. And over the years, it has led me closer and closer to what I enjoy doing. It has led me to realize that I enjoy gaining knowledge, I enjoy being of impact on people and I enjoy affecting lives positively. As I am working in this line of realizations, opportunities continue to come my way (like sharing this to you all right now).

These opportunities draw me deeper each day to that which my heart enjoys doing. And as I write this post, I realize that I have found one of my passions. It’s an amazing feeling. Trust me!

So think about it, if I did not agree to pen this down, I probably wouldn’t have found my passion. It’s amazing because when I chose this topic, I had no idea what I was going to say about it. It just sounded interesting to me and I decided to go for it. My heart yearned and I followed it curiously and it has led me to find my passion.

As it just worked for me, it can also work for you. Whatever your heart yearns, follow it. Give yourself the courage to act on your curiosity and it will lead you to your passion. Just know that lots of opportunities will spring forth that will enable you to express that passion of yours. So be free to explore and give things a try.

I hope to hear your stories of how you found your passion. You can reach me via email (lessonsbymay@gmail.com) or IG (@maay_ree) perhaps.

Have fun finding your passion(s)
